Biography

I am a 23-year old communication studies major at The College of New Jersey (TCNJ) in Ewing, New Jersey. My main focus is in public and mass communication with a concentration in health communications. I am also in the process of completing a minor in communication disorders and speech pathology.

Prior to TCNJ, I attended a small business school in New York City called the Laboratory Institute of Merchandising where my main focus was marketing in the fashion industry. During my time at this institution, I completed an internship with Donna Karan International where I assisted the marketing coordinator for DK Collection. In addition to acquiring an internship, I was one of fifteen students chosen to study abroad in London, England at the University of Westminster for the spring 2008 semester. This opportunity allowed me to experience the international market with an internship at Purple PR. Shortly after returning from London I decided to transfer to TCNJ to pursue a different career track: health communications.

My decision to transfer to TCNJ was originally aimed at pursing a degree that would prepare me for a career in advertising. Although this aspiration is still at the forefront of my career goals, I have narrowed my degree to focus specifically on the creation of health campaigns. I am currently in the process of completing a course (Health Communication Campaigns) that has allowed me to use my creativity to design an effective campaign based off data collected from surveys. I enjoy the challenge of designing campaigns that will help foster healthy habits and discourage practices that may be detrimental to one’s health. My current and ongoing participation in the Public Health Communications Club grants me the opportunity to promote healthy lifestyles among fellow students around campus.

After completing my communications degree I hope to attend graduate school to further my interest in the health field with a master’s degree in health communications. In addition to graduate school, I hope to acquire an advertising internship that will provide me with greater knowledge of campaign implementation and effective elements that increase message comprehension and compliance.
